At least 3 people were killed and 10 others are unaccounted for after a deadly fire destroyed a two-story motel in the US state of New Jersey on Friday.
The early morning fire also left eight people injured, three of them critically. The blaze broke out at around 5:30 at the Mariner’s Cove Motor Inn in Point Pleasant Beach.
“Within five minutes, literally, it was in flame,” said a witness, who did not give her name.
“It went up like a Christmas tree,” another witness said. Officials hope that those who are still unaccounted for managed to escape before the wooden building of the motel was engulfed in flames.
“We’re trying to locate 10 people to make sure they’re safe and unharmed,” said Joseph Coronato, the Ocean County Prosecutor.
Authorities cannot gather any records about those who were staying at the motel because the deadly fire destroyed manager’s office, said Vincent Frulio, an arson investigator with the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
Many victims of Hurricane Sandy who seek low-cost rentals were staying at the motel which had suffered significant damage during the hurricane and was repaired last year.
An investigation has been launched into the cause of the deadly fire !!!
