An Iranian political commentator says the United States is considering military action against Syria in a bid to reshape the Middle East in its own favor.

“A strategic re-mapping of the region would be internally inscribed in a US military campaign in Syria, simultaneously serving the US’ and Israel’s geostrategic ambitions
Under such circumstances, he added, a number of Arab governments will be “playing the role of support casts, above all in financial terms.”

Afrasiabi noted that a US victory in its war on Syria will deliver a blow to the anti-Israeli “axis of resistance” that also includes Iran and Lebanon.

He stated that Iran, through reaffirming its unblinking support for Syria, has neutralized “the US’ maneuver to throw a wedge between the two strategic allies commonly menaced by Israel.”
The war rhetoric against Syria intensified after foreign-backed opposition forces accused the government of President Bashar al-Assad of launching a chemical attack on militant strongholds in the suburbs of Damascus on August 21.

Damascus has denied the accusation, saying the attack was carried out by militants themselves as a false-flag operation.

US President Barack Obama has said Washington must take military action against the Syrian government, which would mean a unilateral military strike without a UN mandate.

Afrasiabi warned that a US war on Syria is likely to help the so-called Free Syrian Army to get its hands on “lethal weapons,” which would “simply prolong the deadly conflict in Syria.”

“… It is becoming abundantly clear that Obama’s real intention is to tip the military balance in the Syrian theater of conflict in favor of the rebels by degrading, even depleting, Damascus’ military capability, as confirmed in the recent congressional hearings,” he wrote!!
